Privacy Policy

This policy explains what SMI Books (the “app”), made by Shri Mahendra Industries (“we”), collects, why, where it is kept and the choices you have. It applies to the Windows app, the Android app and this website.
1. Your business data
The bills, parties, items, payments and other records you enter belong to you. They are stored on your device. When online sync is on, they are also kept, encrypted in transit, in your business’s own private space in the SMI Books cloud so your other devices and the team members you invite can see them. Each business is kept separate: no other customer can read your records, and we do not read, sell or share them.
If you choose Google Drive backup, backup files are saved in your own Google Drive account.
2. Account
To let you sign in we keep your email address. Passwords are kept only in a protected, one-way (hashed) form, so nobody — including us — can read them. We use your email to run your account, send sign-in and verification emails, and reply to you.
3. Help, error reports and device details
To fix problems quickly, the app sends us technical information when something goes wrong and when you report a problem: the app version, your device’s type, maker, model and operating system, screen size, internet status, sync status, the last screens you opened, the messages the app showed you, error messages, and counts of records (for example “120 bills”). Amounts, phone numbers and party names are removed from this information on your device before it is sent. When you report a problem you may also add a description and screenshots — please do not include information you do not want us to see.
4. Payments
Plan payments are processed by a secure, licensed payment gateway. Your card, UPI or bank details go directly to the gateway; we do not see or store them. We keep a record of each plan payment (date, plan, amount and payment reference) to activate your plan and for accounts.
5. How long we keep information
- Your business data: for as long as your account is active, or until you delete it.
- Solved support reports and their files: deleted automatically about 30 days after they are solved.
- Automatic error reports: deleted automatically after about 45 days.
- Plan payment records: as long as required by Indian tax law.
6. Your choices
- You can export or back up your data at any time from Backup & Restore.
- You can ask us to delete your account and the data we hold by writing to the email below. We will confirm within 30 days.
- You can turn online sync off on a device; the data then stays on that device only.
7. Security
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). Only the members of a business can open its records, and this is checked every time data is read or saved — not just inside the app. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password private and use the team roles to limit what staff can do.
8. Children
The app is meant for businesses and is not directed at children under 18.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
